2020 Rookie Quarterback Rankings

Justin Herbert had a record breaking performance this year. Joe Burrow unfortunately had a season ending injury. Three of the top four rookie Quarterbacks have started games for their teams. It has been a great season for the 2020 rookie quarterback class. I have ranked the top five rookie Quarterbacks from the 2020 NFL draft based on what I believe their fantasy value will be in 2021 and beyond.

1.) Joe Burrow

Passing – 264/404, cmp% 65.3%, 2,173 YDS, 13, 5 INTs

Rushing – 37 ATT, 142 YDS, 3 TDs

Unfortunately Burrow only played 10 games this season, causing him to finish as the QB23 in PPR leagues. He had 178.7 point while averaging 17.8 points per game. He did all of this behind a very poor offense line, that allowed 48 sacks on the season. Burrow’s season ended in week 10, on a sack that torn his ACL. He is still my Dynasty QB1, the Bengals have him surrounded with loads of talent. Mixon had an injury plagued season this year, next season he should come back refreshed and return to his lead back role. The Bengals have two very good Wide Receivers for Burrow to throw too in Boyd and Higgins. If the Bengals can sure up the offensive line this offseason the sky is the limit for this offense.

2.) Justin Herbert

Passing – 374/564, cmp% 66.3%, 4,034 yds, 28 TDs, 10 INTs

Rushing – 49 ATT, 225 YDS, 4 TDs

Herbert finished the season as QB9 overall and rookie QB1. He has been impressive in his rookie season considering he feel out of the first round in many dynasty drafts. His 28 touchdown passes broke the regular season record set by Baker Mayfield a few years ago. The chargers have a ton of talent around Herbert, Ekeler is one of the best pass catching running backs in the league. Kenan Allen is a top 10 wide receiver in the league and is paired with Mike Williams who is an elite deep threat. The chances are high that Herbert will have a new head coach and offensive scheme to learn next year. This is the only thing that is worry some to me. My hope is that they bring in a coach who will use Herbert in a way that he can grow and become a top 5 QB in fantasy.

3.) Tua Tagoviloa

Passing – 151/232, cmp% 65.1%, 1,453 YDS, 10 TDs, 2 INTs

Rushing – 9 ATT, 81 YDS, 3 TDs

Tua is going to finish the season as the QB34 overall, while average 14.2 PPR points in his 8 games played this year. The Dolphins have been allowing Tua to sit and learn behind veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick for most of the season. They allowed him to take over the starting position in week 9. In his time as a starter this season he has slowly improved. He still has to learn a few things to put him over the top as a fantasy QB. The biggest knock currently is his lack of knowing what “NFL open” is. He tends to hesitate on throws that are open, however they appear covered. In Alabama the scheme and talent allowed for most of his wide receivers to be wide open. In time he will learn this and build trust in his receivers. The Dolphins have the 3rd pick in the draft currently, and hold 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. They will be able to add to Gesicki, Parker, Bowden and Gaskin. Tua will be surrounded with a ton of talent and set up for success in 2021.

4.) Jalen Hurts

Passing – 70/128 cmp% 54.7%, 989 YDS, 6 TDs, 3 INTs

Rushing- 55 ATT, 320 YDS, 1 TD

The Eagles were struggling with Wentz at the helm, they needed a spark. Insert Hurts, he has come into this offense and lit it ablaze. The Eagles offense under Hurts has been performing at a much more efficient level. Hurts dual threat ability allows him to be a key fantasy asset. He has shown an ability to be a fantasy QB1 in the last 4 weeks, he is for sure a future star in the Fantasy community. The only draw back on Hurts for me is something we do not know. What the qauterback position will look next year in Philadelphia? Along with that the Eagles are aging at WR and still have Wentz under a huge contract. The question around hurts all offseason will be whether or not he will be the starting quarterback come September.

5.) Jordan Love

Love is my fifth ranked Quarterback from the 2020 draft class mostly due to the fact we haven’t see him play this season. The Packers lit a fire under Aaron Rodgers when they added Love. When Love was drafted some people thought this would be the end for Rodgers. This couldn’t be more wrong today, Rodgers has had an MVP type season. Love has the chance to learn from one of the greatest Quarterbacks of all time. Love has all the athletic abilities in the world, he needs to refine these abilities though. Best case scenario for Love is he learns the little stuff that makes a great quarterback and then emerges as one of the best!
